The
Hunted
Dove
Shoots
Kansans
generally don't take our wonderful early season dove
shooting opportunities very seriously. Most of us think
it's something that we can do to see if our shotguns
still work from last season.
Despite
"our" indifference, we have a few small groups
that have established an annual pilgrimage to Ringneck
Ranch’s planted sunflower fields in southwest
Mitchell County. These fields act as very effective
dove magnets.
The
first 2-3 hours of daylight and the last 2 hours before
sundown generally provide a high activity level in the
most comfortable conditions. Don't plan to be on the
dove stand through midday as activity is limited and
it's often a little warm through early September.
Our
dove hunts are typically not at the same service levels
as our upland hunts, making a very good value for a
quick trip with a few friends. Accommodations in the
hangar suites, a continental breakfast, a guide with
access, and game processing is typically all included
in our dove hunt package.
Midday
activities range from a taking a good nap, trying to
catch a fish, or taking a historical (or hysterical)
driving tour through Post Rock Country. Plan the best
shoots for early September until the first wet cold
front passes, which starts the migration.
