Pheasant
Hunting Can Be Physically Demanding
Chasing
pheasants in their native habitat can present substantial
physical challenges for those of us that are no longer
at the same level of fitness we were in high school.
If you have never been half way through a patch of broke-over
cane or a section of CRP grass when both legs cramped
someday you will.
Because
it is not the nature of a pheasant to indefinitely hold
for a point, we are unable to conduct hunts like the
mule drawn wagons of the southern quail plantations.
The areas we hunt can accommodate hunters that may have
some physical limitations and a pheasant's habit of
running to the end of cover, allows us to position blockers
where we expect the action to be.
Another
option is a Kansas statute providing for the issuance
of a special permit for a disabled hunter to ride in
or on a vehicle while participating in the hunt
That license application is available from Kansas Department
or of Wildlife and Parks and requires a doctor's signature
for submission. We have a six-wheel-drive Polaris Ranger,
with side-by-side seating that is available for this
purpose.
To
obtain an application for this permit you can contact
Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks at 620-672-5911
or you can also call us here at the ranch at 785-373-4835.
