A Personal Note . . .

Vera Retires

Over the years, many of our ranch guests have made the ten-minute trip to Hunter, Kansas to visit Vera's. It is sort of hard to describe Vera's (and Vera), so we've included a photo...

Vera Lewis purchased the town saloon about 35 years go, worked hard long hours, and gave locals a place to gather after working all day on the ranches and farms.

She is probably most well known for her rendition of "On the Wings of a Snow White Dove," which is performed complete with choreography when any unsuspecting patron happens to select that song from the jukebox!

At the request of some of our guests she has made special surprise trips to the ranch just to sing "Happy Birthday" and "Wings of a Dove" to someone celebrating a special event while hunting here. Vera has appeared on television numerous times, has been featured in many newspapers throughout Kansas, and has had anniversary parties celebrating her years in business with as many as 2;500 guests spilling out over the streets of Hunter! Pretty good, considering only about 100 people live in
town!

Vera is happily residing at The Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas, about 30 miles from the ranch. She told Debra that she "thinks it is a great place, with all of the nice people to wait on you and help you with everything!"

If you wish, you may write to her at the following address: Vera Lewis, c/o The Hilltop Lodge, 815 N. Independence, Beloit, KS 67420.
